Glasgow Family Information Service (GFIS)

A new service for parents, carers and professionals

On 29 August, Glasgow City Council launched the first phase of a new online service – Glasgow Family Information Service (GFIS).  This will give parents, carers and professionals who work with families, access to a range of high quality information about early learning and childcare services in Glasgow. Access to good information and support with accessing services is fundamental in helping families to help themselves.

A comprehensive search engine will allow you to search for services by type or local area, as well as to look specifically for services with opening hours that suit people, or those which offer funded places or accept childcare vouchers. The search will also directly link each service to quality reports from the Care Inspectorate or Education Scotland - and will even take you to a map showing the location of the service and details of how to get there.

In addition, information will be available on quality and regulation, charges for childcare, tax credits, income maximisation, employability, parenting and wider family support services. Some of this detail is available already and some will be developed over the next few months in time for a full GFIS launch in January 2015.

As well as the online service, information and support will be available via a telephone helpline – 0141 287 5223 – and GFIS will also be contactable by email at EarlyYearsTeam@glasgow.gov.uk

We’d like to have your feedback on this first phase of the GFIS. Go to the site at http://www.gfis.org.uk and follow the link on the front page to tell us what you think.
