National 4 Science

National 4 science is studied over 1 year in S4. It is divided into 3 units: 

  • Science: Fragile Earth which contains topics on energy, metals, water and food. Pupils focus on two of these topics and investigate sources, origins, production and/or extraction.
  • Science: Human Health which contains topics on pupil’s own health, family health and issues which affect health in the community and globally
  • Applications of Science which contains topics on telecommunications, materials and risk and safety

At National 4, pupils will need to pass 3 unit assessments and the added value unit. Pupils will also be assessed using a written scientific report. All assessments will cover knowledge and understanding of science as well as problem solving skills.
Pupils will also receive regular homework and revision throughout the year covering each topic.
